We tend to write off emotional disturbances in children as bad parenting or being a brat. However, serious emotional or behavioral problems are the hallmark of a child who has suffered trauma or has a major mental illness. We can’t dismiss these calls for help.
The goal of this video is to help you be more effective with children when you are called for out-of-control behavior or the assessment of an involuntary hold to place the child in an inpatient hospital setting for psychiatric evaluation. The module offers practical tips to de-escalate the situation and steps to conduct an assessment for an involuntary hold.
