Eyewitnesses play a vital role in the administration of justice. This class is based on current research in the field of human perception and the recommended reforms regarding eyewitness evidence that followed. When officers adhere to best practices in identification procedures, wrongful convictions can be prevented, and investigations of witnessed crimes are enhanced.
Upon successful completion of this class, the law enforcement officer will be able to:
- Examine the officer’s initial response and interview with the eyewitness.
- Define showups, photographic arrays, lineups, and other less common identification procedures used by law enforcement to identify suspects.
