Description
This class examines the science behind implicit biases, how the unconscious brain can determine our behavior, common basis by which people are stereotyped, the impact of biased policing on communities and strategies to counter implicit biases. Bias-based policing refers to any law enforcement initiated action, including a stop, frisk, arrest, etc., that relies upon the selection of individuals based solely on a common trait or group. These traits include, but are not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, or any other identifiable group.
